Wrapping Up our 2023-2024 School Year in the One Stop Teacher Planner

Yesterday, we wrapped up our 2023-2024 school year. It was a good year in so many ways. But as always we found some gaps in our education and areas we need to shore up on, and so I am busy planning next year. One thing that isn't changing this year however is my planner. Last year I posted about things to look for to find the right homeschool planner for your homeschool and followed up with a review of the One Stop Teacher Planner to share why it's such a perfect fit for us. I love this planner option so well, I have become an affiliate with One Stop Planners. If you love it too, you can purchase through my link and while you aren't charged any more, I make a small commission for your sale.

Since it is a customizable, printable planner that you can edit for yourself I had exactly the colors and fonts and designs that I wanted. More importantly however, I had all the pages I needed and nothing extra. This was a big deal to me since I hate having a bunch of unused and wasted pages, but even more annoying is when I don't have something I do need. The lesson plan spreads were perfect giving me room to note everything even my weekly recap. I have had no complaints with it at all.

As we wrapped up our year I took a minute to take stock of all we have learned and done. We accomplished an extraordinary amount. Rebecca and Kate were a whiz at their math this year and knocked out another year worth. Britt and Ruth had lots of trouble with algebra, but the portion that we covered they really have down now, and we have a game plan to try something new with it for them next year. For science, Rebecca and Kate really enjoyed Earth Science. While we muddled through biology with Britt and Ruth and had to supplement in various areas, we finished out the year and I think they have a good handle on the basics. Historically, we (nearly) covered the period from the Civil War to the present day wrapping up our three years of US History. Each of the kids completed a literature course and some of them also had a writing class. They scored well in these classes. The older kids learned a lot in Study Skills class, while Kate made great strides in reading and phonics. Other than Ruth dropping ASL, all classes were As and Bs. Which is good to know since I haven't put weight on grades until high school, since they now need to earn credits for their classes.

Taking stock of our year we've had 62 Adventure Fridays, not all on Friday obviously. We have been to numerous state parks and forest. We earned two of our three Trailwalker badges this year as well as one for the Hillsborough County Hiking Spree. We also visited three National Park sites. We learned so much about plants and animals and biomes while we were out in nature, but we also did enough hiking to count for a PE course and walked more than 90 miles in total. We've decided these weekly field trips in nature are something we are going to continue with over the next school year. Total we logged between 186 and 215 days depending on the child under consideration. All in all, it was a wonderful year of learning, and it has given us so many ideas and plans for the next year. I can't wait to see where it takes us, but I know what I'll be planning and recording it all in. In fact, I've already started setting up my 2024-2025 One Stop Teacher Planner.
